Since you mention winning as your goal, I do not recommend the auto-bidder. I have experimented with both options and have found that I like manual bidding the best. Here's why: simply, it gives me ultimate control!
Several times now while using the auto-bidder, I have found auctions can get out of control when others are also using the auto-bidder at the same time that I am.
This contrasts with manual bidding, where I can submit my bids when the clock is running out and when activity is at its least. While I have not yet won a Pricebenders auction, this strategy is getting me the closest and I suspect it won't be long before I do win.
