Using the auto-bidder in Pricebender auctions can be both strategic and but also very tragic. Let start off by describing what I mean by tragic.
Do not use the auto bidder unless you are quite familiar with the penny auctions. You must know the type of auctions, the best time of day to enter the auctions, and who the big hitters are. Also, you should know how to physically turn it on, set it, and turn it off. Be sure you know all of these processes before using the auto-bidder, because if you don't, you could find out rather fast how one can drain 200 TCredits in a matter of seconds.
Scenario - tragic
You just bought 200 TCredits or got your 125 SO. You are all fired up and ready to go and you jump in to first TripleClicks auction. You decide to use the auto bidder and plug in your start price, pick your max price and enter 125 or 200 TCredits to use. You turn it on as you are first in the auction. You turn away for few minutes and come back and low and behold you got NOTHING left.
What happened?
A heavy hitter came in swinging with their auto bidder on and wiped you out in 20 seconds.
TRAGIC.
This is the worst possible scenario to be in. Two bidders with auto bidder on can literally drain 100 TCredits in a matter of seconds.
Lesson # 1, if you plan on using your auto bidder and don't want to lose all your TCredits, don't leave the auction with it on unless you know you have enough TCredits or you are ok if you lose them all.
The auto bidder can be very strategic if used correctly. If you want to take the first position in the auction or knock someone out, then make sure you have plenty of TCredits and turn it on and watch them stop bidding as fast as you turned on.
BEWARE.
Know your fellow bidders. Do not turn it on without knowing your competition as they might have theirs on too and don't really care if they lose 300 TCredits and the next thing you know, you have zero and they are still leading. Not the outcome you intended, right?
Lesson #2 - be prepared to turn it off as fast as you turned it on.
In general, auctions can be quite long and having to hit the bid button over the period of minutes to hours can be tedious. If you have tons of credits and you have a chosen an auction that is likely a slow time of the day, you can likely use the auto bidder to win that auction quite easily as most bidders wont go up against you.
However, sometimes it is best to enter auctions right towards the end catching people off guard. You have better control if you use he bid button of when you would place your bid and also won't lose bids if the opponent is using auto bidder if you manually bid since your bid won't keep rebidding if done manually.
In a nutshell, Auto-bidder is for the expert auctioneer who has lots of Tcredits, confidence, and no patience. For this person, it is better to win with it on. For the novice with a fixed budget and not much confidence, I would strongly advise not using the auto-bidder.
