Well whether it is better to promote it to your family ,friends and acquaintances vis a vis to strangers really depends overall on how comfortable you are and also the more you share the better you will become immune to negativism , rejection or people who are skeptical and keep saying No I just move on and not get too personal over it .
Having said that however I guess it will be much easier to share and promote with people you know rather than strangers but again the irony of life is such sometimes people whom you don't know takes it better and are more receptive .
Well not to confuse you I would go for both and get the best of both world
