I see no reason not to offer rewards for forward progress.
You can use contests or just post your incentives for
reaching certain criteria.
Be sure your rewards are objective specific,
have time limits and are clearly understood.
The only situation to be careful of is Gift Certificates.
I advise to control them with time limits of 30 days or less, to be used.
