I personally find that my ads work best when I target a group that I'm in, whether it's science fiction fans, game-lovers, or fellow writers because I can find a rapport with my audience. When I build rapport with my audience, they will open up to my suggestions, and in doing so, they will accept my words, which means they will be ready to sign up, go to my TripleClicks store, or whatever else.
If you're a homemaker, reach out first to other homemakers.
If you're retired, reach out first to other retired persons.
If you're both, reach out to both.
If you have other types of interests reach out to others who also have those interests. The best thing about that is that you will reach cross-sections of people that other affiliates might not consider.
