Definitely yes, but there is something that I believe has to be said:
In my opinion it is very important that you generate trust between the people that read your blog and yourself. Every time you finish your blog post try and generate a conversation, promote those conversations to give support, get support, and most importantly, get people to know who you are and trust you.
When you can build trust you will be able to let them join your list, what are the benefits of being on your list? What extra things can you offer to only members of the list that normal blog readers will not receive?
When the list starts to grow, set up your autoresponder after some kind of action that the readers make, create a daily or weekly e-mail that will be sent after that action has been made. Let them know what projects you are currently working on, how they can participate in them, what benefits they will receive through those projects, etc.
People say money is on the list, but that list has to be composed by people that trust you, that know what you are doing and are aligned to what you do. Do not just offer lots of sales pitches in all your e-mails, send value through your e-mails and you will receive value back!
