I would say as often as you need assistance and/or have questions. This is mostly when you are new and do not understand where to start, what to do, etc. It is also important to contact your sponsor immediately you register, if he/she does not get in touch with you first. This will give you confidence that you are in a real online business and dealing with real people.
My sponsor and co-sponsor welcomed me when I registered and they made it clear that they would be there for me whenever I needed anything, but they also gave me the space to learn as much as I could on my own, at my own pace and then ask questions if I got stuck.
Your sponsor and co-sponsor are there to help you build and be successful in your business, so, contact them whenever you need help or even just to confirm receipt of their emails, newsletters, etc. This also shows your sponsor and co-sponsor of you willingness to learn and grow in the business.
