Many affiliates have already pointed out that SEO is the way to go. So, I would just like to mention something else.
Personally, I know nothing about web designing, nor about making my blog more Google-friendly. But I still advertize my blog via social networks and in ads posted on bulletin boards in town. My friends share it and it is a slow process, I admit, but the word of mouth is enough for me at the moment. You see, I still have my full-time job and I don't have the time to learn more about visibility.
Having said that, I think it is extremely useful to learn SEO, and I wish you great success!
