Well, I would advise that you do not give up on them. Joining the SFI seems to me a life commitment. Perharps your perseverance can awaken them someday, and off course all the acknowledgements definitely would be yours. Don't also forget that The SFI bussiness is all about team-surport. You will actually be dublicating yourself. Remember: 'Your sussess is my sussess'.
