They fail to realise that they can use one to purchase the other. In the case of VersaPoint(VP), this is what determines your status, Perks, Payouts, Commissions and ultimately your earnings with SFI.
So it would be advisable to tell that new affiliate that the more VP he can get, the better his standings inSFI. You must also reaslise thet VP do expire every 180days and are reset for each month, so they are not just numbers on your homepage. A good and effective approach would be to get as much VP as you can, while encouraging people in you team to do the same using duplication.
