Getting told no is difficult for everyone.
I use to sell windows door to door. Talk about a tough sales job. But what I learned was the acceptance of NO.
A short story: When we were growing up we were told no allot. It started with our parents. No you can not have candy before dinner, no you can not stay home from school, No you can not stay up late on a school night. So as people we have learned that no can hurt our feelings because we do not get what we want.
As we have become adults the word no still hurts our feelings because we beleive in something and some one tells us no we think we get hurt but thats not really true. Its just our trained mind from when we were children.
You can take the word no a couple of ways. One way I took it was when I was selling windows I would knock on a door and they first thing the potential customer said was NO I am not buying anything I took as a challenge. My response would be Not a problem (with a smile) I just want to show you the features and benefits and I will be on my way. Would you beleive that 70% of those customers Bought windows? It amazed me.
The other way is you get an affirmative no is to understand its OK. The word No will not hurt you. Its just 2 letters. Thats it. The greatness of the word no is that when you finally here that word yes!!! you will get really excited and the more you ask and talk about what you are selling or offering the More yeses you will get. 1 out of 10 is about average. Now this does not mean you ask 10 people one will say yes. It means that an average of 1 out of 10. You might have to ask 20 to get 2 yes votes. ask 30 to get 3 etc.
Just dont let 2 letters stop you from asking.
Remember No can not hurt you its either an opportunity or just 2 little letters
