I believe there could be many contributing factors in answering this.
Lets say that you already have your own business website when you joined SFI, with a decent amount of traffic and newsletter subscribers and as long as it was relevant to the topic you could advertise SFI through the site.
There are many affiliates that join and could perhaps already be involved in other internet businesses of a similar nature, thus having a considerable amount of experience and the contacts already in place.
Some affiliates will invest large amounts of money early to start building their teams, they could be doing well in Pricebender Auctions by winning affiliates and through other ECA's purchasing affiliates.
What if you had been working in the advertising industry for 30 years? Then you joined SFI as part of your retirement plan. These type of people could have years of contacts and associates they could call upon to create mass duplication.
To sum up i would say that those that take their time and work hard everyday can do just as well as the fore mentioned.
