I have had to think about this question. Because this has never been my target market. I am also not sure if you want to recruit them as affiliates or customers.
So, like one of the other people who answered this I had to approach it as though I was trying to recruit my soon to be 25 year old daughter, my 21 year old son, or 19 year old daughter. They all have totally different circumstances, yet are in that same age group 18-25 year old. And they all have 2 things in common; one is that they have very large circles of friends and acquaintances, GOLD MINE! And I-phones. (Light bulb goes bright)
Let's start with the 25 year old: went to college for 2 years, married, husband is in the Coast Guard, with one daughter and baby due in February. She is very good with their budget, she recycles, eats organic, uses organic cleaners, purchases second hand when she can. I think that this is one of the ideal candidates for either affiliate or customer. We have many products that would appeal to her. We can offer a second income, that she can work on when the children are napping. They transfer out every 3-4 years, which means a whole new group of neighbors, new Coast guard co-workers, new church friends. I want her in my down-line!! At this point she may be thinking "oh mom is doing another one of those money maker things". Oh, oh obstacle? No, I am sending her a couple gift cards. So she can explore the store, she may even find some ECA's in her area, or she might like our natural products. I think I will enclose a copy of this so that she can see just how ideal she is for the SFI business.
The 21 year old son: Totally different, dropped out of school, into the video games, he buys sells and trades techie stuff, cars, has a girl friend, he has been working for about 6 months at Burger King, no children (thank you Lord). They say it takes boys longer to mature, I think it is true. But now he is working on his GED, works his job and takes as many extra shifts as he can get. Has his pay direct deposited, has his car payment on automatic payment. Oh, my he is being responsible. Yeah! Sounds like another perfect candidate. Gifts cards will be my approach here too. With a couple gift cards he will be able to explore the Pricebender auctions. He may even decide that he likes them or may find other things that he wants. Knowing him, he will want to win auctions, and he will figure out how to do it! Maybe even want a standing order so he can win and resell items. He is always trying to find ways to make money. Sounds like a good affiliate to me.
The 19 year old: She will be headed back to her second year at WMU (Western Michigan University) studying engineering, she works part-time in the summers as a lifeguard, she knows what she likes and doesn't (the strong willed child), she is conscientious, reserved, determined and thrifty. She is focused on her goals, she has a plan for her life that nothing can deter her from. So I gave her a gift card. She said she probably won't use it, because the only thing she really buys online are text books, but insisted saying it is good forever. Now I on a mission to find an ECA for new or used text books. Then MY store will have what she is looking for.
I have two more children, but they are in another category, 30 something.
What I have learned by answering this questions is: Don't ignore this market! With great diversity and their large circles this could really be a hidden treasure.
