There are never any guarantees that any affiliate is going to be "good" or not.
I think an encouraging sign is their willingness to communicate with you. To me this shows a real interest.
You can watch their VP ledger but in the first month VP are easy to gain, of more value is watching the ledger in the second and third months. Also a new affiliate that starts to recruit new members is a promising sign, it means they are talking to others about the business or advertising.
Watch how often they log in and complete the daily tasks, again it shows an interest.
Remember though that you may have to dig a lot of dirt to find the diamonds.
