At bitcoin.org you can easily understand everything about it and immediately choose and setup your preferred type of Bitcoin wallet.
I personally chose bitcoin-central.net as I know they are reliable and they also provide a Mobile wallet (Paytunia), which allows me to send and receive money using my mobile device.
Bitcoin-Central, is also a bitcoin trading platform.
It is very easy to get started. The following is the same procedure I used:
1) Go to https://bitcoin-central.net
2) Sign-up for an account (all Free)
3) Add some funds sending them through a normal Bank
4) Once you'll receive notification that your funds arrived (normally within 24 hours), you can start using your wallet.
