Great question to ask before starting, Rainne. My best suggestions to you are to 1) educate yourself on PPC advertising, and 2) track all PPC campaigns.
You can go a long way in educating yourself by going to Training -> Internet Income: down to "click HERE", and click. George Little has given us many sections of training on PPC.
In sections 48 - 51 Mr. Little introduces us to PPC, explains strategies, MS adcenter, and bidding strategies.
Check out sections 55 - 59 to get ready by learning about keywords, the value and strategy of using them; determining position and best keywords to bid; then learn about ads and landing pages.
The last four sections (61 - 64) will help you write effective ads, learn to balance your ads, and lastly, give you more help on effective landing pages.
As for tracking, that is one of the most valuable tools you can use. Check Google for free trackers, and for paid ones. Think through what you want to track and how you will use the information you receive. With that information, written down and in front of you, look at the trackers you have chosen to check out. I suggest you look at trck.me, that Tim Tech and his developers have recently started. I found it very useful, user friendly (I needed that!), and they keep adding to this software, according to the requests of the users. There is a trial offer, too. (As there is with most tracking sites.)

When you are looking for the answer to a specific question, you might look there, and check out the product description. Most are reasonably priced, are downloadable, and afford almost instant answers to your questions.
