If I were to start over with SFI, there is one thing I would have done differently.
First, I would not rush to get to be a Silver Team Leader in my first month. Some of those action VersaPoints should be saved for the next month. This is what I now recommend to the new PSA/CSA.

I believe both are important.
Buying PSAs sounds like a more direct option, but as you know, only a very small percentage of those PSAs will be active, and thus lead to real team building.

Investing in your own advertising will probably be more costly (in the beginning) and slower to reap benefits, but once it gets going, it may be better than just buying PSAs. For one, the PSAs you will get by direct advertising will probably be more active, as they may be people you have some kind of connection with.

If you are doing newspaper, or online advertising, then you should be clear about SFI and make sure prospective PSAs understand that this is not a "get rich quick scheme", but an investment of time and money. That should help you sign up PSAs who will be more engaged.

Therefore, while both are important, I think that doing your own advertising is best!
