You can explain the most basic things he need to know to start, you can do that with clips from YouTube, emphasize that he should read LAUNCHPAD lessons, and of course advised to immediately begin advertising and team building.
Tell them also about Wave 3, and Fast Track.
And what is even more improtant is to tell them that they have the full support from You an from SFI 24/7.
For all this to be even easier for new members you can send videos from YouTube.

The best way to get more VersaPoints is to do:
Everyday do TO-DO LIST;
a new member should do LAUNCHPAD;
then you should play games on TRIPLECLICK;
go on auctions and earn Member Rewards Points MRP which you can use to buy more TCredits;
buy some products;
AND THE MOST IMPORTANT IS TO LEARN YOUR TEAM TO DO THE SAME!
When they are EA2 or more you earn exstra VP.
Also when your answer for a ASK SC question is the first or second with the most votes or Top Author you ear VP.

How far should sponsors go to help their affiliates move forward, is there a point you should not go beyond?

I think there is no limit. The sponsor should motivate his afilates all the time.
You should ask them what the problem is, and help them better understand the SFI and TripleClicks.
Show them how to make the 1500 VP, and how to sell products, go on auctions, get rewards on TC.
When you help your afilates to succeed and go forward, with it and you have succeeded!

Is it worthwhile to send individual welcome letters to new PSAs...or can I just send out group mailings?

You have one welcome letter for every new PSA.
It's up to you will you send them another mail or team mail.
When new PSA register i send him
a mail,
team mail
and if the person is online
i start write with him.
Every week i send them and to my CSA's group mail.

There are no limits in SFI.
Everyone has the same opportunity, it's up to you, and only you, what you will be on the end of the month, and also every month.
The best thing is that even in the first month you can be BTL, STL, GTL or PTL.
We have our team liders to help us when we need the help, all you need is to asc.

I would set up SO
(TCredits - 125 pack -- Special Standing Order),
go on auctions,
i'll become team lider in the first month
and start from the first day to build my team.
Also i'll order wave 3 ,
try to read and answer on the most questions in ask sc.
