Good Question.

I would say all affiliates (not only new affiliates) must basically invest Time and Money to succeed in SFI. If one does not have the money, then he/she must commit a lot of time in reading and understanding the already available information on how to succeed in SFI.
Like in any Business one need to commit Time, Energy, Commitment, Sacrifice and Discipline to succeed in SFI.
Some people say they don't have time but if you do manage your time well, you will always have time for SFI. So having NO Time should not be a reason but I see it as an excuse.
Log in everyday in SFI and do your daily actions or if not just read and understand all the information already provided for you. And if you don't understand ask for help and you already have that in SFI too - use the FORUM. The road to success is open if only you choose to take it.

As in everything in life, there are advantages and disadvantages of recruiting our family members into SFI.
Generally, it is a good idea to recruit family members into SFI as you will be readily available to guide and lead them as they will feel free to talk to you anytime. Also, it will be good for everyone to see our own family members succeed and improve their standard of living as well.
However, we should also be careful on which family member we should recruit as you will already know their characters and financial situations. Personally, to start with, I would only recruit the family member who is financially capable of working his/her SFI business and someone who is willing to try.
The disadvantage of recruiting our family members is that you will lose their trust when things are not going well and this may affect family relationships.
Therefore, I would say yes it is good to recruit family members however, start with the most trusted first and then later recruit the others when you have made some progress in the SFI business.

To get affiliates engaged and converse regularly, I would suggest the following;
1. Send a welcoming team mail for new affiliates introducing yourself while they are on line. The idea is to make them understand that SFI is a real internet business opportunity and that their sponsor is real. If the affiliate replies, then make the most of it and tell them about SFI and give the Getting started tips, which for me is the SFI BASICS and the LAUNCHPAD lessons. Tell them to contact you if they need further assistance.
2. Monitor their performance regularly and if they start working on their business, give them more tips or simply send them a mail just to say hi and offer any assistance. If they do not do anything, give them a couple of days and send them team mail again offering any assistance.
3. For those who do not reply, just keep sending weekly mails. For those who start to do their work daily, you have to monitor to find out what time of the day(your local time) this affiliate logs in to work on SFI then try to communicate at that time period as it will seem the most convenient time for them.
4. Try to freely discuss your experience with them, your successes and also your mistakes so that they can avoid those mistakes. This will engage the affiliate to converse with you regularly because you have built a relationship on trust.

From my humble understanding and experience, the reason why some affiliates find success with SFI faster than others is due to the following factors;
FAST SUCCESS AFFILIATE CHARACTERS
1. Affiliate understanding of the SFI business. This affiliate understands the English language very well and therefore goes through the training lessons at a faster rate than others. He may have past experience of internet business so makes Sponsoring and advertising much easier for this person.
2. Affiliate is totally committed to SFI business. This affiliate makes time for his/her SFI business and logs in everyday to work on the SFI business. Affiliate is persistent and never quits until he/she gets a result. A very good sponsor who communicates well with downline, supports and directs them and successfully teaches them how to run the SFI business.
3. Affiliate is financially sound to run his/her SFI business. Has the capability to purchase T/Credits for bidding in Tripleclicks Price bender auctions and build a team quickly.
SLOW SUCCESS AFFILIATE CHARACTERS
1. Affiliate registers but is not convinced or does not work on the SFI business unless he sees proof from someone and starts to act. This person has everything to start (Finance, Knowledge, etc). This is the type of affiliate who will regret and wish that he/she had taken action earlier.
2. Affiliates registers and is convinced but is very slow due to his lack/slow understanding of the English language and so takes time to read and understand the SFI business rules. This affiliate has also no past experience in internet business.
3. Affiliate is financially sound and understands the SFI business operation but progress in the SFI business is affected due to reasons like not having a credit card as he/she never needed one in his/her own country for purchases. He/She gets delayed as they make arrangement for a new credit card.
4. Affiliate registers and understands the SFI business but is not financially sound. This affiliate initially makes progress in the first month but then slows down when purchase requirements arise. This affiliate will progress as and when he/she finds money and means of progressing in SFI.
5. Affiliate registers and has reasonable levels of what is required (Knowledge, Finance, etc) in the SFI business but this person is lazy and is not committed to his/her SFI business. Does not log in everyday and has no patience.

Firstly, you as an individual know well your strengths and weaknesses so maintain your areas of strength and work to improve your weaknesses.
To start with setting goals, one must start with the END in mind. What do I want to achieve in 10 years time? 5 years time? Then you break it down to yearly goals, monthly goals, weekly goals, daily goals and even hourly goals.
That is why SFI has provided a monthly goal and daily To-Do List.
So it really depends on where you want to be in the END. Most of us want to be on the top so in order to be on the top you have to start by achieving today's goals which is basically logging in everyday to work on the To-Do List and gain all daily VersaPoints, Communicating with downline/upline, Sponsoring, Duplication and referring members to Tripleclicks and all that is stated in the SFI rules of Success.
Set your goals high and ensure they are achievable and remember to always celebrate an achievement, even if it is only small.
