I haven't done or organized any contests yet, but I believe that contests that does not require Affiliates to spend any cash or any other virtual cash such as (MRPs or TCredits) would attract Affiliates more. For example; (Signing in new ECAs, or attract new clients to TripleClicks Auctions and PriceBenders). So, if Affiliates, or some of them were successful to get such prospects, the'll be gaining VPs and cash.
I myself recommend suchh contests.

How do I present the SFI/TC opportunity to a prospect without "overselling" it and turning them off?

As mentioned by other colleagues here, you have to be straight to the point with the prospects, if prospects here means (New Affiliates). The key point that you must stress upon is "Promotion", they have to promote SFI/TC to potential customers. With their Gateways that they support customers with, they gain and the Sponsor gains.
If by prospects you mean (Customers), most surely the same concept is applied. I mean if you gave a potential customer the Gateway to TClicks products, he

How have you used SFI's Live Chat (the yellow bubbles that appear in the Genealogy, etc.) to your benefit?

I know that live chat (yellow bubble) can be a great channel. But the problem is, neither my upline nor my downline are answering me via this channel, and it is becoming a bit frustrating.

When should we give up on CSAs who don't respond to our messages or do anything?

The good thing here is you can check the Genealogy, and see when did the CSA or PSA last log in to SFI. This is a great indication about the affiliates' sincerity to the Program. And you can then decide whether to give up on them or keep the connections.
But as for newsletters and TM's, keep them posted and always addressed.

I believe the first thing to do is to remind them of the information they themselves recorded in their Profiles, especially their NUMBER ONE reason for starting their SFI business, Their Biggest Strengths, Amount they want to earn with SFI each month and their SFI Team Leader Goals. The SFI BASICS though, should be their main reference. Keeping all that in mind will give them a great push to stay focused.

What should a new SFI affiliate focus on to ensure a good financial return in their first month?

If we are talking about "good" financial income in the "first" month, I believe luck has nothing to do with it. It is the action that one makes that determines his/her success. I also believe that if any new affiliate has a good number of merchants who are ready to sell their products on TClicks, and he/she makes them become as ECA's, this would be a great ace up his/her sleeve. Also, if he/she knows persons who would be enthusiastic about W3 and Pricebenders, who will be purchasing
