I think probably the first thing to do is identify the products they use which could be purchased from TripleClicks, do that before you talk to them. Then you can open with something like "You should see the shine on my car, I've been using BLAH from TripleClicks, it's great and I get bonus points every time I buy it"

With a bit of luck you can turn the conversation to other products they 'might' use, and the benefits of being a tripleClicks member or even and SFI Affiliate, which is even better.

Don't forget they may not be interested, don't pester them as friends, they will remember and come back to you at the next bar-b-que, and ask how it's going.

"hey look how clean and shiny my bar-b-que is......"

It is very easy with a program like SFI to turn up every day, do what you normally do and slowly fail to achieve anything, because you are not doing anything particularly useful. By having a goal in mind, you challenge yourself, it makes you think about how you may achieve that goal, what should you be doing differently.

As soon as you start to really think how you are going to achieve that goal, you start doing more than the normal daily tasks, you start to research how you can achieve that goal, it adds some drive to you basic desire.

I think the straight answer here is that you don't encourage them, because strictly by asking them to set up a standing order you are asking them to pay you. It's perfectly acceptable to point out that there are huge advantages to maintaining EA status, and that can be achieved by purchasing items from the shop, if they feel they can manage it. You will find a number of affiliates are quite happy not to maintain their EA status every month in favour of building a more stable structure to their business.
