What he or she could do would obviously be to use their money to set up Standing Order(s) to keep their level as high as possible to guarantee an excellent ROI (Return on Investment)from their portion of the monthly 'pot' of VersaPoints.

That would be for starters and would really take no time at all.

If they wanted to take it further then:

He or she could then buy PSA's to create a downline.

He or she could even buy a domain name and open a website which although it can be time consuming at first, but this can end up being minimal after it is developed. This site could be used for banners and any of the other marketing aids as they could use.

Then of course, he or she would want to buy as much targeted traffic to drive to the website and/or as many of the gateways as possible.

If this person really doesn't have much time for this, he or she could always pay to have these tasks outsourced. They could hire one or more people to set up and maintain the website, the traffic and all the other daily tasks needed to keep this a running business and as close to automated as it can get.

Of course, they could pay someone to do this from the start and not have to invest any time in it at all, but that is kind of a disservice to SFI and the wonderful tools and programs available for those of use who want to be completely immersed in our businesses.

This would depend on several issues - how long the PSA had been with SFI, what his or her goals are, how successful they have been and more.

I would start by trying to ascertain why they suddenly wanted to switch gears. I would spend some time discussing this with them, either online or on the phone.

If he or she hasn't been making progress with SFI, I would do some analysis of their progress and try and determine why they aren't getting anywhere. Then I would offer some solutions and encourage them to continue for a time using these new ideas to see if they could become more successful and happier.

A lot of time, folks wanting to change their focus is because they have seen online ads that make this type of business sound like something they could do for an hour or two a day for a full time income. Nothing could be further from the truth and I would let this PSA know this.

I would share my own experiences with chasing the 'next shiny object' and let them know that these type of programs don't usually pay much unless the person is willing to pay fees to sign up and spend a lot of time doing nothing but typing and form filling. The pay structure of these type of programs is usually by the piece or project so it is not something you can 'set and forget'.

If this person was determined to go into this type of business, I would encourage him or her to at least log in daily to SFI and do the 'to do' items and keep their SFI account active because chances are they will be back fairly soon when they find out for themselves how labor intensive and actually boring this type of business can be.

I would also keep in touch with the PSA (with their permission) and let them know of all the exciting changes SFI makes on a routine basis. I would try and determine if they are doing well with the 'new' project and let him/her know that the door is always open for their return.

I believe that the chances of keeping the PSA and/or having them return to SFI are fairly high with these approaches.

You can get other members interested by participating in the forums and gaining the trust of the others who are on the same forums.

This can be done by making entries at least daily discussing subjects that are interesting to you - don't just make comments in order to bring up SFI, people will see right through that.

Once you have become a regular you can make statements that help solve problems and integrate SFI. For instance if you are involved in a discussion about the high cost of making money online, you could say something like "I've been involved in a program for a while and it really doesn't cost all that much - in fact you can make money for free if you want to" or "I have this program that is free - even the training is free!"

This would be an excellent way to pave the way for a PSA who will understand that SFI is not an overnight million-dollar maker (which are all scams anyway) so when the person does sign up he/she won't have that expectation. You could also mention (during your conversations) the importance of logging on every day and doing your to-do tasks and other basics that we try to get through to our downline.

After discussions like this, others will naturally want to know what you are talking about. You could even invite members to contact you personally and then you can send them your own sign-up links (Join My Team).

By then you will be a trusted member of the forum and others will trust you and sign up under you.

Use caution though - make sure the forum you are participating in is not another program or you might get thrown out for taking members away.

When I first saw this question I really didn’t think there would be a way to answer this. But, after I thought about it, I realized that, since I am an avid “yard-saler” (someone who spends the weekend driving from yard sale to garage sale to estate sale in the endless pursuit of a really good bargain!) that my own experiences can and do help me with selling things online.

In fact, this is a really good question that I haven’t seen before – thank you for this!

There is actually so much energy that you have to put into having your own garage sale at your home that doing the same thing online is relatively easy!

Of course, you have to think about what you are selling, what condition it is in, what price you will put on it, how to set it up to get people to look at it and if you need to clean or repair it, or sell it ‘as is’.

You also need to consider how you will let people know you are having a sale – will you advertise in the newspaper or just hang signs from light poles?

Selling items online isn’t really much different except you don’t need to mow your lawn, hang signs all around the neighborhood and fight off the early-birds that show up at 5 am when your signs clearly say you don’t open until 8 am!

Any and all of these experiences (having and attending garage sales) can be immensely helpful when it comes to selling the same items online that you would in a garage sale. You can do this by:

1. By remembering yard sales you've attended in the past you can be sure to price properly. You will know that folks won’t pay $100 for a used pair of jeans unless they are some special brand or your potential customer lives in a different geographical location which commonly does pay $100 for used jeans. Look at your items objectively – then put a fair price on them. Be careful not to over-price something because your great aunt Helen gave it to your mom on her wedding day - if it is special to you, don’t sell it! Also, remember that the buyer may also need to pay shipping which can affect a buyers decisions.

2. When you advertise your garage sale at your home, you usually place signs all around the neighborhood – on busy roads especially. You also might have to arrange the signs so that people can follow them or find your place easily. Luckily, you don’t have to do that for your online garage sale, people can easily find your website or TripleClicks page But you do need to advertise by either paying for it or using free services.

You will want to use the same type of verbiage if you are truly selling things online that you would sell at your garage sale. The signs that always seem to work the best are ones that say “Estate Sale!” or “7-family Garage Sale!”

You can use this same psychology as well in your advertisements by making statements like “3 Generations of Styles!” if you are selling your husband, son’s and grandson’s old clothes. Or, something like “Don’t Miss the World’s Largest Online Garage Sale!” which is similar to some banners that TripleClicks already has available. This type of wording is sure to get folks who love garage sales all excited!

3. Just as if you were having a garage sale at home, you will want to be sure each item is clean and functional. You may need to clean or fix something but it is better than getting a reputation for selling junk.

You will also want to try and place alike things together – shoes all at the bottom of the page, sporting equipment all at the top or whatever configuration would make anyone eager to look for more.

If an item is stained, broken, or has some other issue, you might consider offering it as a free item with each sale. Or, have a section of “Freebies” that you will give away if the buyer will pay for shipping.

These are the common ways that I can see previous experiences with garage sales would be helpful online. It would make this an article if I went further, so I hope this little bit is helpful to you!

Monetary investment is never required for SFI. It does help to speed progress, but if one is willing to use what is available, both on the SFI website and off, a person could be successful.

You could guide these people to all of the resources that are on the SFI website - gateways, online learning course, the free marketing resources, all of the training. Provide them with the link to the site directory which will show them where everything is on SFI.

You could also guide them to all of the free resources on the internet - free blogs and websites, free traffic sites, forums to participate in, etc.

Let them know that frequent articles to their blogs will increase their traffic, in fact you might want to show them ways to learn and apply SEO and keywords to their blog or website. Show them some of the free traffic sources and teach them how to tell the differences between those that will just get them hits to their site vs. conversions.

Most of all provide encouragement and inspiration. These are always free and can go a long way!

However, just using what is supplied doesn't leave any room for your own imagination.

You would want to use both, in my opinion. Once you have your own website or blog you can use what SFI provides along with your own touches to make it attractive to potential affiliates (PSA's) and ECA's.

You can design your own pages and posts to portray your own thoughts and feelings. You can invite others to join SFI and start your own list for future marketing. The sky is the limit!

One word of warning - carefully read the rules about advertising for SFI - there are some clear boundaries to this and you do not want to get in a situation where you are at cross purposes.

Actually, I don't know how possible this really is. I've had PSA's who really rock it for a month or two then suddenly disappear. Conversely I've also had PSA's who have been dormant for months or years then suddenly appeared and really rose to the top. In fact, I've done this myself.

You would obviously identify a PSA who is working the program as one with the possibility to be a superstar and provide all the support possible to see if he or she will realize this.

I think the best you can do is work with what you have - for those PSA's who are actually working the program, you would provide encouragement and for those who are simply a name in your genealogy you would provide encouragement. You really never know who will shine.

A final thought - you could propose a challenge to your PSA's - something requiring that he/she would reveal their goals (maybe an essay type of contest). Of those who respond you may be able to determine someone - or even more than one - with the potential to be a star based on the answers to this question.

I believe the best way to start the month(or to start anything!) is with a positive attitude and a clear, achievable set of goals. The rest will follow.

Use this attitude to set challenging but attainable goals. Think about each goal you are setting - is it going to really push you to get the best result? Is it something that you can actually do?

If you set your goals too high and lofty you probably won't achieve them which will erode your morale and eventually lead to giving up. Don't decide you will attract a million PSA's in a month unless you have a real way to do that - which is almost impossible. You set yourself up for failure with this .

Instead, make a goal based on last month - did you sign up 2 PSA's? Then make a goal to get 3. Did you set your sights on becoming an EA? This month go for Bronze TL.

When you start out your month with a set of goals in place that you will likely reach it. This will motivate you to keep doing your best - and eventually, depending upon you, will end up with everything you have set a goal for.

Next month, wash, rinse and repeat.

Obvious and previous answers include free classified and all the other online methods like this or advertising on your own website (if you have one).

Not so obvious but with endless possibilities are the offline ideas. Some of those are pretty obvious as well - bulletin boards in local stores, handing out business card or information flyers in the mall, taping flyers to front doors, etc.

But everyone has different friends, relatives, jobs and experiences - what about leaving a stack of cards or flyers in your break room at work? Make sure this is okay of course, you don't want to get into trouble. If you have friends and relatives that are supportive, they could leave them at their job sites as well.

Church is another possibility - maybe during the time before or after services when everyone is standing around catching up with each other you could tell them about your new business and how excited you are about it.

Although it may not be free, a job fair is another area you could use - you wouldn't necessarily need to set up a booth but you could certainly hand out flyers, business cards or even gift certificates at one. People that go to these are looking for work - talk about a targeted audience!

Along those same lines are the Employment Offices and Ready Temp places. These may be unique to the USA, but they are everywhere. I'm sure there are bulletin boards available or they may even let you post with them as a potential job. The people waiting in line to get in or get jobs will certainly be receptive!


If you are female, you could ask your hairdresser or nail technician if you could leave a stack at their counter or station. Guys-you can do the same at your Barber shop. You might be able to work out a deal with him/her that is mentioned in one of the SFI marketing ideas - give them a dime for each person that clicks through - in the long run you would make money off of this even though it may cost you around $5.

Look at your local papers for upcoming events - around here we have a lot of things like concerts in the parks, parades and different celebrations (a local beer tasting celebration!) that you could hand out cards, flyers, gift cards, etc.

Use your imagination and think outside of the box. By investing your time and ideas you will soon have a list a mile long!
