Let me first thank and congratulate you. I have had the same question raised by a lot of people,some who are willing to join and some who have joined lately as PSAs to one of my friend.
I can, without doubt, answer in affirmative. You just do not need to be a born leader, although at the same time I must say, being a born leader definitely helps. Let me show you the same with a small example. Below mentioned qualities would be required to excel as leader in SFI.
1) Sound Knowledge of the various process and procedures.
2) Good interactive skills
3) Team building and leading from the front.
4) Believing that you cannot do it alone.
5) You cant be stuck when faced with a demanding situation.
6) Follow the most important rule that there are no rules that make an excellent leader.
Now getting the qualities 1,2 and 3 can be difficult but if one has the will power, the learning resources at SFI are enough to build the qualities in an individual.
For qualities 4, one needs to understand that he can only achieve the goals set, if he has proper support.Thus trying it all alone can put him into unwanted situations, and he may actually end up losing.
For point number 5, he has to just tell himself that he cannot back out, what ever the situation may be, willingness to help is required to attain the quality goal.
For point 6, well that is the essence of all the rules, you just cannot set pre set and pre defined rules if you want to excel as a leader. A leader must try to develop, be innovative and come up with game changing ways.
Let me assure you that whatever i have mentioned is there in some form or the other in the trainings. Thus would say one thing, Read and understand and you will definitely be a leader.
