Well, first of all everyone join SFI to earn something if it is quick the better.
Once you join SFI you should definitely go first start, sfi basics and launch pad. Thereafter, you should go to My account - My report - VP ledger. Follow up what has been told there as much as you can.
Do daily/weekly/monthly actions.
It is also important that you should place standing orders T Credits / S-Builder Co-oP / 10+15 PSA and IAHBE so that you could keep your EA status.
You could keep EA status for less than $20.

How can I convince my downline of the benefits of having a Standing Order without them feeling pressured?

You could convince your downliners of having a standing order is say that
1. He will get a discount going for a standing order from the original prize.
2. He will only have to do the payment part only once for a particular item and the rest will be performed automatically on monthly basis given there is enough funds. SFI will also do their part if no sufficient fund will give another two tries. First on 10th then on 20th and lastly on 30th.
3. He can always reverse the standing order placed if he does not wish to continue, without any extra charges.
4. If any one has financial difficulties he can always do daily/weekly/monthly actions and buy single TripleClicks credits 10 nos which he could keep his EA status by getting 1200 VP for less than $ 20.00 and place them on standing order.
5. In case of Versa Points 1500 VP if he place an standing order he will be also recognized with a badge

Before giving an answer to your question hard-working PSA/CSA are not only affiliates who do daily/weekly/monthly actions.
Apart from above action ask them to go and interact with Forum, submit Ask SC Answer and take part as much as possible with all the games, go through My Account VP ledger and see what further actions he could do, auction and place items at TC (Garage sales) which is all free.
Above all the most important aspect of SFI and TripleClicks are sponsor more affiliates thus advertise, advertise and advertise.
If above all are completed you could offer them Gift Certificate.

Should we recruit our family members into SFI? Good idea or not?

It is good idea since the family members have different ways of approaching SFI with their various ideas.
You could always interact and assist each other and if any one is leading others could follow his/her guidelines.
In case of promoting there are always much more promotion ways since it is a team compared to one person.
It is like family business and the most important aspect of it is duplication of their downliners
How do you develop trust with your affiliates and get them to follow your leadership?

Be simple as much as possible.
Be friendly as much as you can.
Be exemplar and lead; let them follow you.
Be brief and precise.
Be their 24/7 for any assistance needed.
Do not wait until they come to you go to them and find out how well (praise) or how bad (show them where they went bad) they were doing.
How does one support all your downline affiliates if you have barely enough to support your own self?

Well from the day one joining SFI you will be having so much information and guidelines what to do with SFI and TripleClicks and if one is to follow the guidelines to the point it is more than enough to succeed with SFI.
You may have barely enough support your own self but still you could first follow what has been told by SFI guidelines and ask them to follow your footstep. Again ask your downline affiliates to follow them to his/her affiliates (duplication)

Once you join SFI which is free and as a newbie you will have to follow the guidelines placed by highly experienced team. It is self training program where you will have to get acquainted.
At the Home section once you perform To-Do list you will be awarded with Versa Points which will increase your commission, perks and your power rank.
Please it is very important to keep your EA status which you can get for less than US$20

This is my own experience: To become a superstar you have to join SFI in a positive mind of frame with no much of persuasion and no expectations but should work with dedication and satisfaction without first thinking of profit and advantage we are able to get from SFI and TripleCheck.
Firstly, try to get most of the badges if not all and browse more and more and challenge yourself with a can and will do attitude.
Commit yourself with the guidance given by SFI and advertise as much as possible as if this were your own.
Commitment, dedication and optimism the three elements of a superstar!

How many hours a week do I need to devote to SFI to become successful?

No of hours you should devote will not come into question as it's explained in your question itself.
Becoming a SFI is as easy as ABC but if one wants to become successful he will not think about counting the hours as his aim is to become successful.
To become successful in SFI especially as a new comer like me you will have to do everything and more.
Therefore, the number of hours you put in depends entirely on your devotion.
