What is the best way to learn (after SFI training) about advertising using the internet when you are a complete novice?

Contact your sponsor, c-sponsor, thy will help you out greatly. Also use these tools:
1. Use SFI Team Co-op http://bweeble.com/brand/736af
2. Ask the Leaders in the Daily Growth Tab. May of them will Help.
3. Use the Safe Lists and Traffic Sites. If you can purchase Package deals so you ca get more e-mails out.
4. Social Networking: I use all avenues here.
5. Ask, a2a Members, your complete upline, eve support.
Do you need to have your own website (if so, why) or are the Gateway websites provided by SFI adequate?

The Gateway websites are a great tool.
I think everyone is missing one important tool and that is the premade web sites and your own priviate domains that you can purchase thru triple clicks.
These are very easy to use, set up and maintain.
It is also very low cost and provides you Versa Points. I use mine with a standing order to keep it up to date monthly.
How would you go about organizing a seminar to introduce new, high-quality SFI affiliates?

First of all you have to decide what type of seminar you are going to do. Skype, Webnar, Direct with people Present or one of many others.
Then you have to decide who you are going to invite. What is your Focus. SFI, Triple Clicks, ECA, or any of the many opportunities SFI Provides.
Then you have to arrange the event. I have done events for the past 30 years and planning one you really have to have all the tools and information at hand.
Plan, Plan, Plan! You can not have To Much Information. Make it easy to understand and in deapth.
Do Small events and Test runs. It makes it easier.

Tough Question!
Being with SFI for over 5 years and running mulitple businesses, I would sal all of them. I review them all the time as sometimes I forget what to do or how to do it.
This imformation is not only applicapable to SFI, Its any business you run.

Has anyone tried the paid Facebook advertising and, if so, did it work/was it was worth the cost?

A couple of years ago the paid advertising with Facebook was accepted and worked well. Now that they block SFI and TripleClicks I set up a tripleclicks Fan Page and left it open for anyone. It has been working very well in getting people to tripleclicks as well as getting many of our members to it to see what is going on with Tripleclicks and SFI.
How much should an SFI affiliate spend on advertising each month?

It all depends on what you want to do dwith your business and what you can budget.
Right now I send my budgeted advertiising dollars on our Team Co-op and on S-Builder. This cost me about $60.00 a month and adds 50 to 60 PSA's a month to my personel dowline. Them my downline adds about anothe 100 a month. Remember we get paid for all of it.
However When I started with SFI in 2008 I had no advertising money. I started with free safelists, classified adds, x cards, anything that I could do. This brought me at that time about 200 new PSA's a year.
Remember Do You want to grow a successful business? Then grow your downlines starting for free and re-invest your comissions in your business.
