Understanding is power.
To know how to advertise if you want to reach a specific target group.
Firstly you do planning here before advertising. When you do planning you work backwards. After planning, when working, you work forward.
This kind of planning will need research. Before doing research you need to know the 'specific target group',
1. When knowing your target group,
2. You need to understand your target: (What they like, what will attract them, etc.) and
3. Where to find them and the best time.
If you have the above, then your question will answer itself.
Different people are approached in different ways, using different strategies/methods and are found in different time and places.

How do you get your affiliates to become SERIOUS business builders in SFI?

To get your affiliates to become SERIOUS business builders in SFI, you must first make it clear to them that this is not a job, but their own business. Take out the employee mentality.
Mentor, guide and motivate them. Show them, by example, how TC/SFI works and how to make money at TC/SFI. There are many ways to make money here. Let them chose which way do they prefer to use while learning other ways.
If this is done and they are aware that they must make their own salary, then they will become SERIOUS business builders in SFI knowing that sky is limit.

Technology is advanced. If you need to determine beforehand what are good spots to advertise. You need to know your target first.
The good spot to advertise is where you will find lot of your targets.
When you know who your targets are, do a search online. When you search online you will find exactly the places you want. You can then search which one has more traffic then when you find it, that's your good spot.
On social networks, you can search your targeted groups and join them. Then you can search what is happening in that group. If you find what you want, then it is your good spot.
Locally, you can go to shops, restaurants, internet cafe', etc. where your targets normally goes. Do research there and see what is going on. Find out if you can place your flyers and how can you do that. If everything fits, then it is your good spot.

Should my ads link to my own webpage/blog...or to an SFI Gateway? Which is the best approach and why?

I for one. I believe it is far better to link your ads to SFI Gateways than your webpage/blog.
SFI Gateways looks professional and they have the right basic information that will attract your prospects. If necessary, they provide links for more information. They have fresh updated information. They get updated when SFI updates.
Your webpage/blog might not look professional. It might contain unnecessary information or even wrong information if you misunderstood something. Sometimes it might be out of date if haven't updated it.
For these reasons and many more. I won't advice you to send your prospects to your webpage/blog.

People fear success because they are afraid of the unknown. If you, as a sponsor, you are already there, it won't be an unknown to them, it will be something obvious. Because you did it or you are doing it, then it will be obvious for them that they can do it too, they won't have fear.
You are the bridge to their success. If the bridge is strong they won't have fear to pass to success. If the bridge is wobbly, only the brave will pass it.

There is no need to worry about cultures and time zones in order to manage your team. SFI is personal business. Everybody will run it according to their way and their culture. As a team leader, you just lead your team by example. SFI is your leader/example. SFI helps you without worrying about your culture and your time zone. You must also do as your leader, SFI, does.
You help your team to understand how SFI works. how to make money, here at SFI and how to grow their team. You give them support, motivations, etc. You send them messages whatever time. They will find their messages when they wake up, when they log in at SFI or in their email boxes. They will respond at anytime also.
Just keep sending supportive and motivation messages at anytime not worrying about time zones and cultures.

My most important goal is that my SFI business is running and is giving me more than enough in my Residual Income and Leveraged Income in 5 years time.
Presently, I'm 49 years old. I joined SFI last year June. Since I was growing up, I had plans about my life. I did achieve most of them. The remaining one is this of retiring at 55 years of age, the latest, 60 years of age.
It is promising that I will achieve it because SFI has introduced new things to help us boost our businesses, including the Diamond Team Leader, and one of my uplines has promised a plan to retire soon.

What are the drawbacks to using link cloaking software?

The main two drawbacks I know about link cloaking software is that they are full or viruses and they are too prone to hackers. The hackers can break in to steal, change or destroy information. Other affiliate marketers can easily hijack your affiliate links and steal the commissions that rightfully belong to you. If you're promoting affiliate links without hiding your affiliate details, then all a potential thief/hacker has to do is replace your affiliate ID with his own ID while making a purchase. He gets the commission, and you get absolutely nothing! This is a real drawback!
